Étude No. 7

Started August 15, 2026Edition: Schirmer

Current focus

Keeping the Martelé stroke even across the string crossings, and maintaining rhythm through measures 24–32.

Technical challenges

String crossings in the upper half of the bow. Intonation in third position.

Musical challenges

Letting the phrase sing through the technical exercise without rushing.

Practice notes

Slow practice with metronome at 60, then 72. Isolate the string-crossing bars before playing through.

Interpretation notes

This étude is about evenness, not speed. I keep reminding myself to hear the next crossing before it happens.

Reflection

I keep returning to the same two bars. That's not a failure — that's where the work is.
